Girls Like Mystery

Girls Like Mystery started in Shanghai in 2010, formed by Kevin Wright, Adam Poole, Michael Arone and Michael Herd. What began in the city’s live music scene quickly became something far less fixed, with lineups constantly changing over the years. Nineteen members have passed through the band, but Kevin Wright has remained the one constant as lead singer.

They built their name playing regularly around Shanghai, including venues like Yuyintang, writing direct, melodic songs that sit between indie rock, emo and punk energy.

Their first album, Distance Changes Everything, was released in 2013 while still in Shanghai. In 2018, the band went on hiatus when Kevin Wright moved away from the city.

Years later, during Covid, Wright started writing again. That led to the band reforming in Singapore, eventually releasing Sitting in a Room Surrounded By Strangers in 2021, capturing a completely new version of the band.

Now based in Singapore, the current lineup is Kevin Wright, Blake Stetson, Gary Dean, Putera Mohd Faizal and David Meadows. A third album is on the way and leans more into personal songwriting than anything the band has released before.
